What about the ones who survive?

A recent survey conducted by the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) shows there are an estimated 1.25 million injuries due to fires in the US every year. Each year there are over 25,000 survivors of catastrophic fires. Their lives now altered forever, these courageous victims must embark on a painful and long road to recovery.

This path to recovery is led by America’s burn centers where skilled medical professionals are the heart of burn care. Led by specially trained surgeons, multi-disciplinary teams begin planning for the long-term recovery of burn survivors as soon as they are admitted for treatment. Team members focus on the patients' quickest possible return to their jobs, families and communities.

With this medical effort at its core, the burn centers and their community supporters, like you, have come together to be the nation's most comprehensive regional response to burn injury. They are the front line of care for Americans who are victims in need.

Your donation helps:

• Children burned in fires - physical and psychological assistance

• Burn Centers - allowing care for all, regardless of financial ability

• Burn Victims - financial assistance for victims unable to fend for themselves

• Victims of Fire - assisting those forced from their homes

• Education - supporting community efforts to prevent disaster through education

Sadly, it is children under 10 that
comprise 17% of all deaths from fire.

Dear Mike (Association for Firefighters & Paramedics),
You are most generous, awesome and marvelous all in one...and we don't know how to thank you! You embody what is best in all of us... goodness, kindness and caring without ever asking for anything in return.
Please accept our sincere gratitude for your help during our time of need. Your gift let us know how much you care and has inspired us. It is impossible to formulate the words to express how much you have touched us. Our house fire in December (2007) was truly a tragedy, but we are here thankful for the miracle of you. Your generosity has renewed our spirits. We are thankful to have friends like you.
Your substantial gift has simply overwhelmed us. We have lost most of our physical possessions and your gift has helped us rebuild our lives. More importantly, there is something very special happening here...you have given us hope. We have undergone a transformation because of your support and generosity. It is so important for us to let you know how we feel.
We extend to you our deepest appreciation and heartfelt thanks for thinking of us. How can we ever thank you! If there is anything we can do for you, call on us.
With love and sincerest thanks,
Carol & John D. - Saddlebrook, NJ

Dear Mike,

Dear Mr. Gamboa & AFP,

My husband, daughter and I sincerely thank you for helping her (Holly) recover from her devastating loss due to the fire last April. She recently got a permanent job and rented an apartment this month. Your financial gift helped her tremendously.

Thank you sincerely,
Kathy O. - Huntington Beach, CA

Dear Michael & AFP,

Thank you so much for the monetary donation. Our family is very grateful for all you do to help those families recover from fires. Keep up the wonderful work that you do! We moved out of my mother's house and are now renting a home of our own. It has taken us awhile to get back on our feet, but we are all okay!

Thanks again, sincerely,
Sasha, John, Sheldon and Meadow R. - Shubert, NE

Dear Michael & AFP,

We were overwhelmed that your organization would do so much to help restart my son's life. Michael, you have been such a wonder at getting him help after the fire destroyed his apartment. He is settled in his new apartment and many other people have also helped with household items. He is on the road to recovery from his burns. Thanks,

Evelyn A. - Cayucos, CA

Dear Mike,

We would like to thank you for all your help and all your kindness. Even though we had a tragedy we've been so blessed to have wonderful people such as yourself in our lives. On behalf of the whole family, we would like to thank you and the Association for Firefighters & Paramedics, Inc.

God bless,
the Alvarez family - Fullerton, CA

To Michael Gamboa & AFP,

Thank you for your donation and making it possible (for me) to receive therapy. I hope to beat the prediction from therapists and receive full-range of motion in both my arms, wrists and elbows. I truly appreciate all your organization is doing for me!

With sincere gratitude,
Nicole R. - Logansport, IN

Dear Mr. Gamboa,

Thank you so much for the $1,500 check. It was so nice to get money with no restrictions, nor long waits with longer meetings and complicated paperwork. It means I will be able to get a typewriter sooner as my notes will be legible. Also some small hand tools needed in everyday life.

Thank you again,
Roderick M. - Saugus, CA

Dear Mike,

Words cannot describe how grateful we are for your help, kindness and generosity. We are still getting settled into our new apartment...this would not have been possible without you! We wish you and your family all the best.

Kindest regards,
Sandra C. & Kyle S. - Santa Monica, CA
